About Sarah Thust
Sarah spent three years in Cambodia as a freelance reporter. She worked for German newspapers & radio stations, dpa International, several English newspapers & magazines as well as for a national French news website. During that time she covered events as the ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh (November 2012), the 37th session of the World Heritage Committee (June 2013) and the funeral of the Cambodian king Norodom Sihanouk (February 2013). For the Phnom Penh Post she worked as a business reporter.
In 2014 she returned to the German capital Berlin, where she got involved in search engine optimisation and social media. Some of her major employers : news website t-online.de, German news agency dpa and the tabloid BILD.
From Apsara to Zen: The Phnom Penh hangover
It is 4 o’clock, 10 minutes and 5 seconds in the morning. I wake up from the sound of the chants from the nearby pagoda, where the first Cambodians honor their ancestors by offering food and money to the monks.
